I set myself a personal challenge, 60 posts on this website in 60 days. Initially it was simply to get more long-tail traffic. That means that more content on the site gets indexed by Google and so the overall level of traffic increases a bit.

So far, I’m doing ok and this is post #27 after 24 days, but it’s definitely challenging. I’m ok with the writing side of things, alcohol lubricates my typing fingers, but I feel a teeny weeny bit of responsibility to write stuff that is vaguely worthwhile or entertaining. If you’ve been reading, you’ll have notice it’s a bit of a brain drain. I’d rather not blog for blogging’s sake.

What happened to bloggers anyway? They all got bored or outsourced to Indians and most of the over-sharers moved to Facebook. Which is fine by me, because Google is still putting a lot of importance on fresh new content and the search algorithm still rates blogs pretty well, as long as they aren’t keyword stuffed, generic garbage.

I noticed a really dramatic shift in my stats however since I started earlier this month. Check this out :

Almost as soon as I started posting daily, the site’s bounce rate decreased by 82% down to a mere 8%. The Bounce Rate is “the percentage of visitors who enter the site and “bounce” (leave the site) rather than continue viewing other pages within the same site.”

This means in general visitors are way more engaged than they used to be, which is interesting. Why should they be? They read an article but what compels them to stay and click around? I’d like to think it’s my magnetic personality but I presume it’s something simpler than that.

Anyway, thanks for all the topic suggestions on Twitter & Facebook. I’ll try to keep the posts as informative and useful as possible.

And remember kids, if you want to be a good writer, a stiff drink always helps.
